John and Laurel Archer

 • Humanitarian Aid Agency
 • Countries around the world

Nancy Cucheran

Our passion is bringing hope to impossible places.

John is the director of a humanitarian aid agency working in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. He is working to offer intelligent compassion in complex situations and bringing hope and light to those living in darkness. His organization runs programs in disaster relief, healthcare, social services, education, agriculture, water sanitation and micro-economic development.

The world is complex: conflict and civil unrest, climate change and natural disasters, refugees and global food shortages. Helping people in need has never been more challenging. Sometimes, bringing change and hope to the world may seem impossible, but we believe hope can be brought to people living in some of the world’s most challenging contexts. To do this, humanitarian aid must move beyond good intentions to blend technical knowledge with local cultural insight. Above all, our desire is be a witness for the kingdom in these “impossible places.”

Curtis and Vickie Blanchet

 • “Just Go Tour”
 • Across North and Central America

Curtis & Vickie Blanchet

In February, 2008 the Blanchet family left Emmanuel to embark on a journey by bus through North and Central America with the goal of mobilizing the church for missions. “Just Go!” is their theme and message all wrapped up in one phrase.

Whether walking across the street with a plate of brownies, serving in a ministry like the Gospel Mission or Food Bank, going on a short term mission trip with the local church, or giving a lifetime to translate the scripture, each follower of Christ is called to go. This is the message the Blanchets desire to share at churches, youth groups, Christian schools, cell groups, homeschooling meetings, and wherever anyone will give them the opportunity. They pray that God would use their very “ordinariness” to spur others to be obedient to God's call.

Nancy is passionate about mentoring and discipling young adults and has been given the unique opportunity to speak into the lives of young national leaders through the biannual Deeper Conferences and personal mentoring. She is also the coordinator of a roma (gypsy) children’s outreach ministry to the over 150 poor gypsy children in an unreached area of the city.

Dave & Lorelie Hanson

 • Imagine Thailand, PAOC
 • Mae Sot, Thailand

Dave & Lorelie Hanson

Burma (also known as Myanmar) is in crisis. Two million Burmese have entered Thailand, fleeing from a cruel, military dictatorship. Many refugees leave the refugee camps and make their way to Mae Sot, a city 5 km from the Thai-Burma border. Most of these refugees live in slum communities all around Mae Sot. Children are vulnerable to human trafficking and live without any hope in this world.

The Hansons are partnering with Imagine Thailand to serve these marginalized people around Mae Sot in several ways.

  • Running Life Book camps. Helping children who don’t have an official identity create a Life Book that may one day provide them with national status.
  • Providing clean water. Working with a team that assesses water needs and installs water filtration systems in the schools of Mae Sot.
  • Working in schools. Coming alongside Mae Sot children as they learn and helping them discover and develop their God-given talents.

Steve & Hayley Hasenbank

In obedience to God's direction, the Hasenbanks moved to Puerto Escondido, Mexico where they are involved in drawing people closer to Jesus and closer to one another through a skim board program, English classes and friendship evangelism and discipleship.

Starting a mechanics program and a Christian camp are some of their dreams for the future, and they are excited to see what God is going to do in and through their growing family to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the people there.

Fred and Val Ilyin

 • New Manna Ministries
 • Siberia, Russia

Fred Ilyin

To serve and rescue street kids, orphans and widows: this is the mandate of Fred & Val Ilyin and New Manna Ministries which they founded. Working primarily in Siberia, Fred travels extensively throughout the region looking for those in need and offers hope for the future, warmth and sustenance for physical needs, and unconditional love for the human spirit.

Upon his return from one such trip, Fred writes, “It does not matter how often I visit an orphanage or meet with the street kids, my heart goes out to the children and I want to do more to help the children’s desperate situation. These “children at risk” crave for someone to give them some attention, a hug, a kind word, some time, and tell them that they are special. It really is important for individuals that know the Lord to be God’s extended hands to the children.”

Mark Jennings-Bates

 • Rally 4 Life
 • The Dakar Rally in 2011

Mark Jennings-Bates

The Dakar is one of the most challenging rally races in the world, with only 30% of entrants even making it to the finish line. Emmanuel's own Mark Jennings-Bates, a champion rally driver, plans to complete this race in 2011 as Canada's first 4WD entry. More importantly, Mark plans to use this race to anchor a grassroots marketing campaign aimed at raising $4 million for two charities: Fe Viva World Missions, from Emmanuel global partners Kim and Lynn Weiler, and Just A Drop.

Mark, his wife, Jackie, and their team of supporters and volunteers plan to reach 200,000 people in a viral campaign to ensure the success of their significant fundraising objectives. You could say that Mark is "pushing to the limit" both to complete The Dakar and to leverage the experience to change communities that desperately need help.

Derek and Irislee Koch

 • Imagine Thailand, PAOC
 • Mae Sot, Thailand

Derek & Irislee Koch

Back in Canada after spending a year in Mae Sot, Thailand, Derek, Irislee, and their four children continue to work with Imagine Thailand as North American Representatives for 50% of their time (Derek is Emmanuel's Peachland Campus Pastor the other 50% of his time). They visit schools, churches, and community organizations to create awareness of Imagine Thailand's work overseas and the humanitarian and spiritual needs in Thailand. Derek and Irislee want to develop partnerships, raise money for projects, and bring teams to Thailand.

Due to their work in Mae Sot–a town right on the Thai-Burma border–the Kochs have a special interest and knowledge of the plight of the Burmese people. Most of  the missions work in Mae Sot centred around Burmese children who fled Burma with or without their parents and now attend migrant schools in the area. The Koch family continues to support this marginalized group.

Gerald and Ruth Morrison

 • Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada
 • Liberia, Kenya, South Africa

Gerald & Ruth Morrison

Now an integral part of the Emmanuel family, Gerald and Ruth ministered in West, East and South Africa for 43 years, including leadership at all levels. Although they officially retired in 2003, they have returned to Africa eight times for ministry and encouragement to both national churches and missionaries there. They've also gone to Russia several times for ministry and teaching with African missionaries trained at MET (Missions Exposure and Training in Pretoria, South Africa) and mentored the next generation of missionaries at Summit Pacific College.

Furthermore, God is leading them back to southern Africa for one year beginning in 2010 where they will work with churches affiliated with PAOC and the Assemblies of God of South Africa in a teaching and mentoring capacity. That's some retirement!

Gerald and Ruth value the relationships within the Emmanuel community and covet our prayers as they prepare to serve in Africa once more.

 • Cabarete, Dominican Republic

Bill and Donna Reimer

Bill and Donna Reimer are part of the Emmanuel family and have responded to God's call to “go.” They are currently in the Dominican Republic working in the sugar cane villages on the North Shore of the island of Hispanolia.

The Reimers work largely with the Haitian people living there, but also support the Dominicans living in these villages as well. Their ministry involves a feeding program which feeds over 300 children in the village, a maternity ministry with mothers and their babies babies, and a food distribution program to about 50 families in the area.

Bill and Donna appreciate your prayers for strength as they carry on this ministry that is growing faster than they can believe.
